Jim Bildner on stage

A Message From Our CEO

In a world full of seemingly endless challenges, one human characteristic separates those who see only the world’s flaws from those who see its potential for change — and that characteristic is hope.

Hope becomes powerful when it is put into action — changing lives, often millions of lives, on a scale that can sometimes be difficult to imagine. But behind these numbers are real people whose lives have been transformed in ways that, just a few years ago, may have seemed impossible. The impact is not simply measured in numbers; it is felt in the lives of individuals, families, and communities. What does this look like?

-It looks like 115 million patients supported with access to low-cost, high-quality healthcare.
-In education, it looks like 108 million students served with high-quality educational resources.

It also means:
-23 million people connected to mental health resources.
-10.1 million people connected to healthy, affordable food.
-5.4 million people reached with legal aid and resources, improving access to justice.
-3.4 million people connected to government benefits.
-1.6 million immigrants and refugees served through humanitarian aid, resettlement support, and legal services.

But the numbers only tell part of the story. What matters is what changes because of them.

At Muso sites in Mali, under-five mortality has been reduced by 90% — resulting in the lowest documented child mortality rate in sub-Saharan Africa and a rate on par with the United States.

At facilities working with Noora Health, training family caregivers has contributed to a 56% reduction in newborn
readmissions, an 18% reduction in newborn mortality, and a 71% reduction in 30-day post-surgical cardiac complications.

Recidiviz has helped states use data to identify people already eligible for release from the criminal justice system, facilitating the release of 278,532 people and saving an estimated $1.52 billion in states’ corrections spending.

Across the portfolio, this work has also helped relieve $50.16 billion in student loan and medical debt and helped generate $4.3 billion in increased income and assets.

Like the ripples created by a single drop of water, the impact of this work multiplies exponentially.

In September 2026, I published a book, A Matter of Hope, that shares the stories of entrepreneurs turning hope into action, making a difference in the lives of millions of people. I can’t wait for you to read their stories.

On behalf of all of us at DRK, thank you for making this possible. Your support enables us to change the world every day, one life at a time. And that is a gift of a lifetime for each and every one of us.

Jim Bildner’s A Matter of Hope tells the stories of a wide range of heroic people who dedicated themselves to making the world a better place. The point, though, is not that these individuals are extraordinary but that we can all be extraordinary this way if we just believe in ourselves, our ideas, and the possibilities of a better future

— Larry Kramer, President and Vice Chancellor of the London School of Economics and Political Science
