The Guardians of the Forest
September 25, 2016
The Borneo rainforest is severely threatened by deforestation. In this new video James Reed, a tree climbing expert, collaborates with the Rainforest Connection to place re-purposed Android cell phones with solar panels high up on trees to listen to the sounds of the forest. The devices are programmed to recognize sounds such as chainsaws, motorcycles and guns which, when located, send an alert to locals that illegal poaching or logging may be occurring in a specific area.
