This Accelerator Is Building An Ecosystem For Climate Change Startups

Rainforest Connection transforms recycled cellphones into solar-powered devices that monitor and pinpoint deforestation activity for intervention in real time. While the breakthrough technology has proven its ability to drastically curb deforestation, the venture doesn’t naturally fit the type of high return-on-investment model necessary to attract game changing funding.
“Rainforest Connection can do something that will have a bigger positive impact in the world than 99% of companies in Silicon Valley,” said Silicon Climate co-founder and mobile entrepreneur Aswan Morgan. “But how do you monetize that? VCs can’t really make money on that. That’s not a billion dollar company, but the social good is immeasurable.”
